Welcome to Linable.com. Linable is an attempt to help SOHOs ¹ switch to linux for most of their server needs. Linux is a powerful Operating System with which one could do virtually anything that is required at a very low cost. The documents on this site are aimed at an audience which has basic computing / networking background, basic UNIX knowledge would be helpful! Most of the documents on this site comes from personal experience in helping SOHO’s Linable their offices. An attempt is made to relate to people who have little or no prior experience working with these technologies.

Linux comes in several distributions or flavours, for the sake of simplicity, when it comes to distribution specific information, we limited ourselves to Debian flavours. In our opinion, these are the easiest to install, maintain and upgrade as servers. In most cases, the procedures described should work fine on other distributions, with no or very few changes. In fact, as a matter of policy, when we’re faced with a choice to make with regard to the software / tools we use, we choose what gets the job done and not always the most cool / cutting-edge / elite.
